CHEAP SEATS: Liberals drop the ball again with electricity plan
If Ontario residents needed any more evidence that the Ontario Liberal government has lost its way on electricity, it received it Thursday.
Premier Kathleen Wynne announced she was going to cut electricity bills across the province by 17 per cent. Not by actually cutting costs, mind you. But by extending already existing bad deals for another 30 years, paying less now so we can pay more later.
This is like taking out a second mortgage to pay your credit card bills. When your credit card bills have been maxed out by buying lottery tickets.
It is the definition of throwing good money after bad, in this case billions of dollars.
But what is truly sad is not that this is such a bad idea, but that it is such an unimaginative one.
After all, the Liberals had months to come up with something on their own, plus ideas from both the Tories and the NDP..
In the end, they went back their solution to, well, everything: namely borrow, borrow, borrow.
As PC leader Patrick Brown said, this robbing Peter to pay Paul, but in this case, both Peter and Paul are taxpayers.
And we have all seen this dance before. Way too many times. It’s time Peter and Paul and the rest of us finally made this government pay the piper.
