Blue Jays slugger Encarnacion hopes to sign long term with Toronto
DUNEDIN, Fla. — Edwin Encarnacion says he wants to be a Toronto Blue Jay for the rest of his career.
The 33-year-old first baseman/designated hitter spoke to the media at Blue Jays spring training camp this morning.
Encarnacion is set to become a free agent at the end of this season unless a new contract with the team can be reached.
His agent said at the winter meetings they won't be conducting any contract negotiations during the season.
Encarnacion signed a three-year deal with the Blue Jays in 2012, which included a team option for 2016.
