Black bear climbs tree in residential area in Deseronto

A young black bear was found nestled up in a tree in the town of Deseronto on Friday.

At around 7:30 a.m., officers from Napanee O-P-P and Tyendinaga Territory Police responded to the reports and found the bear in a maple tree on the front of someone's home.

Police stood by to keep bystanders at a distance, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry were then called in to assist.

However, it is reported that the bear climbed down about two hours later, before ministry officials arrived, and ran off into nearby wooded area.

Police say no one was injured in the incident, but they're reminding people not to leave garbage or pet food out overnight.

They also add that people should clean their barbeques so that unwanted animals aren't attracted to the build-up of food on the grill.
