Hans was born on November 16th, 1935 in Borne, Holland. He was the 2nd child of 6 siblings. When he was 5, his family moved to Hoogeveen. It was there that his father became a soldier during the war. He did come home occassionally for brief visits. Hans spent 2 years at an Agriculture School learning to become a farmer at the age of 17. He did this so that he could emigrate to Canada. In 1955 he did just that and traveled by boat to Canada. He realized farming was not for him, and after a few other jobs he found a job as a store clerk and in a few short years became store manager. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Prins in April 1960 in Newmarket, Ontario and together moved to Renfrew. After having 2 girls, Elaine and Lisa, and several moves later a son, Chris was born. From there Newmarket became home for 13 years when another daughter, Miriam was born 4 and a half years after our son Christopher. He changed careers and became an orderly at the Southlake Hospital until he retired. Trenton became their retirement home. Hans & Betty are blessed to have 7 wonderful grandchildren. Hans will be remembered by all his family and friends.
